Clive Lythgoe's career as a concert pianist
is unique, if only that the President of the United States of America,
Jimmy Carter, placed Lythgoe's highly acclaimed recordings of American
piano music, recorded for Philips Records, in the permanent collection
of the White House Library. His first Gershwin recording won the
British 'Record Of The Year Award', an award he shared with Sir
Georg Solti and The Beatles.
Since his spectacular debut in London's Royal Albert
Hall, playing the Bliss Piano Concerto at the BBC Promenade Concerts,
Mr Lythgoe has appeared as soloist with all the leading British
orchestras under the batons of such illustrious conductors as Sir
Colin Davis. Sir John Barbirolli, Sir Adrian Boult, Sir Malcolm
Sargent, Sir John Pritchard, Lorin Maazel and Zubin Mehta. He has
performed in such renowned concert halls as the Royal Festival Hall
and Royal Albert Hall in London, the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Carnegie
Hall and Town Hall in New York, as well as the Palais des Nations
for the United Nations Day Concert.
In England,Clive Lythgoe's TV series, 'The Lythgoe
Touch', for Southern Television ran for a record breaking 85 weeks
introducing him to a vast new audience, consecutively followed by
a 52 week BBC radio series and a 26 week television series for London's
ITN. In the USA, he hosted a TV series, called 'A Touch Of Lythgoe'
for PBS, where he was also interviewed by prestigious interveiwer
Charlie Rose.
Mr Lythgoe recently had a great success, with a tribute
to George Gershwin, at the Yachats International Summer Music Festival
IN Oregon, a concert attended by professional musicians from the
world over, as well as the public. Another highlight was an invitation
from New York City's Mayor, Rudolph Giuliani, to give a recital
in the ballroom of the official residence, Gracie Mansion, before
a distinguished audience.
Clive Lythgoe has recently recorded a new CD of Gershwin's solo
piano music.
Mr Lythgoe is proud to be Director of Horizon
Concerts in New York, a unique non profit organization that takes
over 100 Free classical concerts annually, to needy audiences that
include the elderly in nursing homes, Alzheimer, AIDS, Drug Rehabilitaion
and Homeless Centers, as well as selected Public Schools that have
no music of any kind, throughout the five boroughs of New York City.
In October, 2000, a major profile on the career
of Clive Lythgoe appeared in the New York Times, written by Ralph
Blumenthal. This produced a literal 'Blitz' of interest by the Media
in Lythgoe's past and present career and already has led to a major
TV feature on his life, for A&E (Arts & Entertainment TV),
profiled and interviewed by Harry Smith. ABC have also filmed two
profiles. The the NBC TODAY Show recntly filmed a major Profile
of Clive's life and career, a program that reached over 10 MILLION
people. Press profile articles have appeared in the German, Swiss
and Japanese newspapers , as well as a feature on his life in the
February 2001 edition of 'O' (Oprah's Magazine) and People Magazine
published an in-depth interview with Lythgoe in their March 12th,
2001 edition.
